Did you know that most U.S. adults (86%) say small businesses have a positive effect on the way things are going in the country, according to a Pew Research Center survey?

At MaxxSouth Broadband, we understand the impact small businesses make, and our dedication to our communities goes further than simply being a local Internet provider. As a company deeply rooted in Mississippi communities, MaxxSouth is committed to supporting the local economy and celebrating the small businesses that help our neighborhoods grow and thrive. That's why we launched Local Connections, a social media series dedicated to spotlighting small businesses across our service areas.

What the Local Connections Series Is All About

The Local Connections series features short interviews with the owners of small businesses in the community. These spotlights are shared on MaxxSouth's social media pages and are designed to help raise awareness for the businesses that serve our communities every day.

Whether it's a locally-owned coffee shop, restaurant, boutique, barbershop, or repair service, these businesses are the backbone of our neighborhoods. Through this series, we want to help businesses tell their stories and encourage residents to shop local and support their fellow community members.

How We Support Local Businesses Beyond Social Media

Our support for local businesses goes beyond social posts. MaxxSouth regularly engages with the community by collaborating with local businesses and nonprofits, hosting giveaways, and even sharing local content on the MaxxCommunity blog. This helps small businesses reach new customers while reinforcing our commitment to staying involved in the areas we serve.

As an evolving company, we understand the challenges and opportunities that come with running a business. That's why we're proud to use our platform to lift others up and give them the visibility they deserve.

Why Supporting Local Businesses Matters to Our Communities

Small businesses are vital to economic health and community identity, creating ripple effects that strengthen our neighborhoods in multiple ways. The economic impact alone is substantial - the Small Business Administration reports that small businesses employ 47.3 percent of the private workforce and added 1.8 million net new jobs in recent years. These aren't just statistics; they represent career opportunities for our friends and neighbors right here at home.

Beyond job creation, local businesses help build more sustainable communities. Their shorter supply chains mean fewer delivery trucks on our roads and less environmental impact from long-distance shipping. When we shop locally, we're making choices that benefit both our immediate community and the broader environment.

Local business owners also tend to be deeply invested community members who support the causes that matter most to their neighbors. From sponsoring youth sports teams to supporting local charities and first responders, these businesses reinvest in the community in ways that strengthen the social fabric of our neighborhoods.

Each post in our Local Connections series celebrates these connections and reminds us that our communities thrive when we support one another.
